Last remaining place to win Games gold of the Granite City

The Olympic flame may have passed through Granite City but a memorable summer of sport in the city is still waiting with Golden games this week.


While leading the world athletes will go gold in London this summer, Aberdeen City Council is on the lookout for some great walleye with its free festival of sport for most 65 s of the city.


The Golden games, held in the city of tomorrow and Thursday, is designed to promote active ageing, by encouraging the people over 65 to take part in the program of two days of events which includes fishing, tennis, golf, Zumba, health and city walks first pentathlon of the nursing home.


The events are all free to enter and hundreds more 65 s in the city have already signed the varied programme of events. But, as the clock ticks down there is still time to align to the last remaining places at events, including tennis, angling, aqua zumba, Aberdeen first session of zumba holder of the Chair and the Swedish exercise to music.


Coordinator of the social protection and welfare Advisor Len Ironside EPC said: "The Olympic year of London 2012 Games Golden presents a fantastic opportunity for the participants to try something new, review a past-time former, favorite, get involved and experience the enduring benefit to participate."


"Purpose of the games against age discrimination, to overcome age stereotypes and obstacles for the elderly continue to participate in a range of activities throughout the city.


"The program has been lot of success so far but with the last few remaining spaces I would encourage family and friends to encourage someone, they know who is aged over 65, to see what is still on offer."


"I hope that everyone involved in the 2012 Games Golden has the fantastic time and everyone wants to take part the best of luck in all events."


Fred McBride, Aberdeen City Council, the Director of social welfare and well-being, said: "the games Golden calendar was developed together to promote activities that will contribute to combating discrimination of age, overcome stereotypes related to age and eliminate the obstacles to continue to take part in a range of activities throughout the city."

Gold games have been created and coordinated by Aberdeen City Council, NHS Grampian, Aberdeen Sports and Aberdeen Sports Village.
