Zumba instructors jam in Glasgow - Glasgow Daily Times

GLASGOW — While many Barren County residents were enjoying a chance to sleep in on Saturday morning, a group of women from Glasgow, Danville and Murfreesboro, Tenn., gathered at Extreme Fitness in Glasgow for three hours of fast-paced, almost non-stop exercise.

The women are all Zumba instructors at various fitness facilities, and they gathered at Extreme for a Zumba jam, a session in which a Zumba Instructor Network (ZIN)  jammer spends several hours teaching other instructors some new moves to take back to their own studios. Saturday’s jammer, Keila Valdivieso, is a Honduras native who grew up in Miami and now lives in Murfreesboro working as a ZIN jammer for Tennessee and Kentucky.

Advantages of Home Fitness Equipment

Do you feel the need to trim up a bit because of the extra counts of calories accumulated from the food and drinks served up during the past holidays? But the problem is you’re too lazy to rise up early in the cold mornings to go outside and exercise? Are you not the kind that can go around the park for a brisk walk or 30-minute jog? Or is your daily schedule too tight up to even get a 1-hour work-out at the gym fitness center?

If you answer yes to these questions, you might like the idea of doing it at home at anytime of the day and night.

A home fitness regimen is a flexible option for individuals like you who cannot easily go out to trim excess calories and fats. It usually means two things: either you do your own physical exercises, like doing aerobics, bending, dancing, jogging, and the likes; or you get exercise equipment and devices for your own home use. Most people opt for the latter due to the many advantages it gives to an individual looking for a more flexible, better way of losing calories.

The advantages in doing your workout regimen at home with physical fitness equipment are:

* First, you can do it at any time convenient for you. Whether you want to do it at mornings after waking up or at nights because your schedule is quite full at daytime, a home fitness exercise is perfect for you. You have the freedom to not wake up early in the mornings, or you don’t have to be bounded by time when doing your exercise with your home fitness equipments.

* Second, you can use your exercise equipment without hassles. There is no more confining yourself to a limited time of using equipment due to other people waiting in line, which usually happens at a gym center. You can use it at any amount of hours at your own discretion.

* Third, you have the privilege to exercise at a desired amount of time needed to burn your extra calories. You can do it everyday, bi-, or tri-weekly. And for the best part, you do this freedom of exercising at a desired amount of time without paying for extra cost, which is the next advantage.

* And finally, you save money. In a gym fitness center, you pay monthly not only for the time you spend with them but for the services of the trainers and staff. With home fitness equipment, there is no need for you to maintain your membership by paying regularly. In addition, you don't pay whenever you use their equipments, facilities, and services in excess to the number of hours you originally signed up with them. If you think of how much you can save in a year, you will be surprised at how much more advantageous it is to own exercise equipment at home.

There are many kinds of exercise equipment that are available in the industry. The treadmill, elliptical trainer, stationery bike, fitness ball, and a lot others are typically ideal choices for home use. Whatever home fitness equipment that you find ideal to your needs, it is advised that you look at the advantages, disadvantages, price, and most importantly, the terms and conditions coming from the provider or maker of the machine.

What Are the Best Shoes for Zumba?

There are over 10 million people around the world who are practicing Zumba on a regular basis. Zumba has spread across the globe and has become popular with people looking to have fun, lose weight and get fit. However, without the right shoes, Zumba can be much more difficult. Clothes are a personal choice but appropriate footwear is an absolute must for dancing properly and avoiding injury. That's why many people ask 'what are the best shoes for Zumba?'

There are plenty of options when it comes to choosing shoes for your Zumba class. All you need to do is to make sure that the shoes you buy fulfill certain criteria, so that you can be sure they are appropriate for Zumba. This article will point you in the right direction.

Zumba Sneakers

Sneakers designed specifically for Zumba are the most popular choice. They are what are most recommended by Zumba instructors and perhaps the best choice for people starting a class. These sneakers come in various designs and makes. Zumba is a fluid style of dance, if you have Zumba sneakers twisting and turning will be much easier because they have less grip. Therefore, nifty footwork requires shoes that allow you to glide without getting stuck.

Running Shoes

Running shoes are a definite no-no for Zumba. Running shoes are intended to provide a lot of traction whilst running so that the sole grips the surface and stops the runner from falling over. If you have lots of grip whilst dancing, or you'll end up with a twisted ankle or pulled muscle, when you are perform those amazing turns.

Athletic Shoes

Athletic shoes are another options as long as you can find shoes that do not have a lot of traction on the soles. Athletic shoes can sometimes be designed to be used for running AND athletics, which makes them grip the surface too well, and therefore the wrong choice for Zumba. If you search the stores carefully it is however possible to find athletic shoes that are ideal for Zumba class.

Aerobic Dance trainers

Another good option Is aerobic dance trainers. These are trainers that have been designed for modern forms of dance like street dance or aerobic fitness. The advantage with these shoes is that they allow your feet to breathe properly, have smooth soles, and can sometimes have pivot points which help you to perform fast turns much more easily.

The key things to think about when choosing shoes for Zumba are:

· Comfort: It is essential that the shoes you select should fit you properly and are comfortable when moving around. Shoes that are too tight or too loose shoes should not be used.

· Weight: Lightweight shoes are the best option for Zumba.

· Grip: They should have very little or no grip on the soles.

· Money: You don't have to spend a lot of money to get the best zumba shoes especially if Zumba is something you have just started.

Benefits of the ZUMBA Dance Fitness Program

Zumba is the latest worldwide craze and it is no wonder that Australia has been quick to embrace this fantastic new fitness trend. Zumba is a latin dance fitness experience suitable for anybody. As an instructor myself, people always have questions and concerns regarding the workout. I say workout, but it is often referred to as a 'party' meaning it is such a fun and easy hour, you won't even know you are working out. Exercise doesn't have to be boring anymore and with Zumba it isn't. The music is motivating, the moves are motivating the atmosphere of the class is motivating. In this article you will find essential key points to help with your Zumba experience.

Zumba is a fantastic way to workout. It has often been called the 'exercise in disguise' as it is just that. People that attend Zumba classes always say it feels like they are not working out, and that is the idea behind Zumba. It takes all your favourite latin rhythms, (merengue, bachata, cumbia, salsa, reggaeton, mambo, cha cha and other styles including belly dancing and flamenco) and simplifies these moves making it an easy to follow workout. Zumba classes include everything you need from a workout, lower body, upper body and without even getting on the floor to do sit ups, your abdominal region!

A one hour ZUMBA class allows you to burn up to 1000 calories per session on average which is fantastic in you think about the other exercise regimes you would have to partake in order to burn the equivalent amount of calories. Zumba is great for weight loss in both women and men.

Zumba improves co ordination. And the proof is right in front of you after you attend 2 or 3 classes. For those of you that are regular Zumba people, remember that first class you did? And how it was a little difficult? And now, if you think about how easy the moves have become and how you can pick them up more quickly. The proof is right there, the more Zumba you do the better you become, therefore the better coordinated you will feel.

Zumba is great for your general health and fitness level. In an average Zumba class you will get a sweat on but you should not be out of breath the whole time. There will be moments during some of the routines where you heart rate is elevated and and the workout harder but then there are the songs with the routines which allow you to return to normal and therefore make the workout seem easy. A lady on the radio the other day from here in Adelaide was 120kgs, and from doing Zumba 2 - 3 times per week she was down to 80kgs! Zumba is a workout that works.

Zumba is a go at your own pace workout, which everyone should be aware of. This means you do what part of the workout you can do and for those parts that are too challenging you can take it at your own level or simply march on the spot. As long as you keep moving during the class, you are doing something good for your body.

The easiest way to find out about Zumba is by taking a class. Classes are casual and there is no pressure to get the moves straight away. As an instructor I tell people that the first class is the most difficult, it's new and its probably like nothing you've ever done before so you have the right to make mistakes. People often come to me and tell me they are uncoordinated. I watch these people during the class and it appears they are not uncoordinated at all!

The moves are repetitive so it gives everyone time to pick up the moves, then later in the routine the moves are repeated again so you have a chance to refine them. After the first class, you will find the moves become easier, your fitness levels are better and your co ordination will be improve. What better way to spend an hour out of your day?

Zumba CD

If you are new to Zumba then I am sure you have come to realize how encompassing the music is. When I take Zumba classes I can really feel the music moving through my body and it helps me keep motivated and keep moving. I know play Zumba music while cleaning the house, running, and of course while doing Zumba. I have purchased a number of CD's and I wanted to do a review and mention my favorite two Zumba CD's

My favorite Zumba CD is Vibe Tribe, this is an official release from Zumba fitness so I had no doubt that there would be good beats. The songs are all great and have a predominantly Latin feel to them. The songs also have a bit of middle eastern and African influence which helps change up the tempo and flow of the tracks. The only thing that some people might not like about the songs is that none of the lyrics are in English.

My second favorite Zumba CD is Party Nation which is also another official release from Zumba fitness. The songs are different then Vibe Nation but have a similar feel to them. I find that the songs on both of the CD's will always keep me in a good mood and help me exercise or run for longer.

Where to get a Zumba CD

If you are looking for a Zumba CD there are songs and entire albums available to download from a variety of sources. If you keep your eyes open you will find some good bargains. I downloaded mine from Amazon.

If you would like to download or order a Zumba CD then you can visit this site that has a direct link to the Zumba music page on Amazon. You may also be interested in getting a Zumba fitness DVD so you can perfect your moves at home.

Zumba Calories Program - Burn Calories and Be Physically Fit

The popularity of Zumba program became famous in the year 2000. This is typically performed by people to efficiently lose weight and be physically fit. This is a patented format of fitness class through a Zumba fitness program combined with Latin dancing with resistance and interval exercise for a body packed workout. This workout is well known to burn immense number of calories in your body. What's good about this Zumba calories exercise is that it offers fun and great leisure whilst giving a great workout.

Zumba Calories Workout Features

Zumba is made for a weight loss program and aims to create a workout with fun and excitement. This workout is accompanied with enchanting music, great environment and easy to follow movements that beginners could easily carry out. The whole body movement enables the participant to sweat and be happy of their workout. Zumba offers an array of programs such as Aqua Zumba, Zumba Atomic and Zumba Gold. Every program has different students but with the same objectives and that is to burn calories.

Zumba Calories Workout Format

Zumba fitness is a combination of conventional Latin dances and other dance style. The dance movements are personally choreographed by an instructor. There are situations wherein a Zumba class is done with combination of fitness exercises such as crunches, push ups, aerobics movement and bicep curls. When you tend to concentrate on the training program, calories are burned without the participants feeling exhausted.

The typical routine is one hour including warm up and cooling down, this is to prevent muscles from injuries. Even if the workout is inspired by Latin dances, it does not require participants to be a good dancer to enjoy the program. In order to have great amount of Zumba calories burned, the person should strictly follow the instructions given by the instructor. Also, the calories burned will depend on the body structure of a person.

Information about Zumba Calories

Burning calories efficiently can aid effective weight loss. The average number of calories burned with Zumba is anywhere from 500 to 800 calories. But, there are cases wherein some people burn on average only 300 calories per session. This is because the amount of calories burned depends on the body structure and weight of the performer plus the effort exerted in performing the exercise. The bigger the weight, the more calories are burned. Aside from this, the instructor can also design or personalize Zumba calories workout for any given student to maximize the number of calories they burn.

Before starting the workout, typically the instructor will get your weight to determine the kind of workout that suits you. From then on, the instructor will monitor the Zumba calories burned after every session so that he can gauge if the workout program given to the learner fits him or her. That way, he can also monitor the progress of the program.

Zumba Foods

While doing Zumba class, the food intake is an essential thing to be aware of. This will not only maximize the number of calories burned but also to effectively loss weight. The following are the advisable foods to intake:

A Few Reasons to Love Zumba Music

The value of exercise can never be overemphasised. We all agree that there are many health benefits when we work out. How to exercise is however another matter and we can have a long debate on this. Typically, there are two types of exercises: Aerobic and anaerobic. Aerobic exercises are more recommended because of their ability to quickly shed excess fat. When it comes to aerobics, Zumba music is always my choice.

Here are some of my reasons for using Zumba songs in aerobic sessions. The first reason I choose Zumba is the songs themselves. The Latino beat that comes with Zumba music just does it for me. Like with any other Latin songs, Zumba has this party feeling to it meaning that if you are using it in exercise, you will basically be having fun into physical fitness. Those who have an exercise routine will tell you why this is so important. Unless fun is added to the routine, it is very easy to get bored and stop. Zumba songs will help you prevent this.

Zumba has a good variety of music which means you have songs for warm up, active exercise and for cooling down. This means you will use Zumba Music from the start to the end of your exercise session without having to switch to any other type of music. Because of the smooth flow of Zumba songs, your aerobic session will tend to also be a flow rather than just jumping up and down. The effect of this is a workout that appears to combine both the physical and the massage effect to it. To put it another way, you will be dancing rather than doing some hard exercise. For ladies, this is even more appreciated because as you cut down and get in shape, you do it while maintaining cute female shape.

The other reason why I enjoy Zumba music is that it is not just workout music. You will enjoy this music even as you relax at home or drive your car. So, when you buy the music, you can use the same CD for both purposes. Zumba will also be very good to listen with your friends because the music is appreciated by both sexes. The music is also very good for releasing stress so after a long stressful day, all you need to do is turn on that CD as you drive home and you will get home ready for family time.

Zumba music when carefully selected can be very good for your sleep. Playing slow music at low volume allows you to sleep peacefully. So in case you have had challenges sleeping, try Zumba and see what difference it will make for you. The reason this is possible is because Zumba music will help normalize your heart rate. One of the reasons we are unable to sleep is the fast pace that our hearts beat making it hard for sleep to come. You probably already know that stress and pressure cause lack of sleep. And these are only some of the benefits of Zumba.

Zumba - A New Fun Way to Get Fit

What is Zumba?

Zumba is the new dance fitness class that is sweeping the world.

With varied dance styles from meringue & salsa to bollywood & belly dancing they are blended together in to a class with a wonderful party atmosphere.

Zumba was created by Beto Perez from Columbia who one day forgot the music for his aerobics class. All he had was a selection of music CDs from his car. With that mixed bag of music the class he taught proved to be very popular & the rest is history.

It was discovered that a lot of people were intimidated by the traditional method of teaching a fitness class. So in comparison all Zumba classes are taught with no or minimal verbal queuing & with no pressure from the instructor to perform the steps correctly.

The people in the class just follow the moves the instructor is doing but if they can't or don't want to do that move, all they have to do is to do their own thing, keep moving & to have fun fun fun!

Zumba is suitable for anyone over the age of 16 and is great for all levels of fitness and experience. But for people younger than that there is Zumbatomic. There is no dress code (Lycra is NOT mandatory!).

Just wear what you feel comfortable in but do bear in mind you will get very hot! The best shoes to wear are ones that will give your foot support (like an aerobic style shoe). It is best not to wear a shoe that has too much grip as this can cause pressure on your knees.

People are advised to bring a towel & a bottle of water along with them as you will get very hot! There is a break in between each track allowing everyone to get a quick drink of water before the party continues.

Finding a Zumba Class near you:

With Zumba classes popping up everywhere, towns are slowly starting to tremble as if hit by an earthquake, as people shimmy, shake & gyrate to the strong Latin music that is Zumba Fitness. You can visit the official Zumba site and enter your postcode or zip code to find out about a class near you.

Zumba Fitness has arrived in Edinburgh, Scotland's capital city with a BANG & the residents are loving it! Tom and David Lowe's Zumba class is the only male team taught Zumba class in Edinburgh.

David originally fell in love with Zumba every since he attended his first class with Donna Giffen who is Scotland's own Zumba Master Trainer. David has always had a passion for all types of music & dance which reflects in his style & movement.

Tom is a very experienced fitness instructor and qualified Pilates instructor. Tom has taught in most health & fitness clubs across Edinburgh & has been lucky to have full classes across the years.

Warning:

Zumba is infectious with some people having to go to 4 or 5 classes per week because they enjoy the class SO much.

In an average hour long class, you will burn between 500 - 600 calories but can reach up to 800 if you pull all of the stops out.

The Zumba Boys Zumba Classes in Edinburgh, Scotland. Their classes are the only male team taught class in Edinburgh. With two instructors you get twice the fun and the option of two slightly differing dance styles to follow. Find out more at their Zumba Edinburgh website.

Becoming a Zumba Instructor

To become an official Zumba instructor you simply take a one day Zumba Basics or Zumba Gold workshop. There are no tests, no studying and no passing or failing. In the workhop you learn how to do all the basic dance steps and how to cue a class visually. You also get practice in leading a group of people. Find the dates and locations to Zumba workshops around the world at Zumba's main website.

So what skills do you need to be a good Zumba instructor? The best skill you could have is a love and passion for Zumba. You may love to dance, entertain or make a room full of people happy. You may want to inspire people to lose weight and relieve stress. Having a dance background and/or experience as an exercise instructor helps, but is not necessary. There are many excellent Zumba instructors who had neither when they started.

Once you take the workshop you are eligible to join ZIN which stands for Zumba Instructor Network. For $30 per month you get choreography, music, access to a Zumba instructor forum, a listing in the instructor database, and discounts to future workshops and other Zumba related items.

The hard work now begins when you are ready to put together your first class. You need to make a list of songs, listen to the music over and over, and practice your choreography. The choreography you receive from Zumba is helpful, but the beauty of the program is that you can create your own choreography and put your own style into it. Zumba is supposed to represent Latin and other world rhythms. The recommendation from Zumba is to use 70% Latin and fill the rest of your class program with whatever you choose. Bellydance, African, swing and hip hop are some other popular rhythms used in Zumba classes. Remember the choreography should be a mixture of both dance and fitness moves so don't forget to add some squats, knee lifts and bicep curls into the choreography. Then practice over and over!

Zumba instructors seem to be very much in demand right now. You can get a job teaching at health clubs, community centers and dance studios. You can be an independent instructor and rent your own space. The only other recommendations are to be CPR certified. If you work for a health club they may also ask you to have a Group Exercise certification. The pay will also vary according to where you teach, but independent instructors usually make a higher income. Pay rates at health clubs are from $15 to $25 a class, but if you rent your own space you can make up to $100 per class or more.

Being a Zumba instructor is very rewarding. Not only will you be helping others to be fit but you will be staying fit yourself. You will be providing a space and time for people to let go of their troubles and feel joy. You will be making money doing something you love to do.

Are you ready to make money helping others, getting fit and doing what you love to do? Visit become a Zumba instructor and get more information on Zumba and instructor workshops.

Zumba Dancing - Experience of a Zumba Workout

Zumba dancing is aerobic dancing inspired by Latin Dance. The word Zumba comes from a Colombian word meaning to move fast and have fun, and that is exactly what I did!

When I went to my first Zumba class I really didn't know what to expect. With my dance background I figured it would be similar to dance classes I've taken with maybe a fitness twist....well, was I in for a surprise!

This was possibly the most fun and exercise I've ever had in a one hour class and I looovvveeee dance classes (well I would hope so seen as I'm a dance instructor) but a Zumba workout is different! It has all the fun elements of a dance class, music, moves, sing a long, ohh yes your encouraged to sing along! But it also has all the benefits of a full on fitness class or gym session as you are working muscles from head to toe, and the best bit is, you don't even notice, as you're having such a blast. It's not until the next day when you're feeling a little 'sensitive' in certain muscles that you realise how much of a workout you just had.

I was literally, pardon the pun, dripping with sweat....attractive I know but who doesn't want to leave a class well and truly sure they've had a great work out. Zumba dancing in a word is just non stop FUN, unlike a dance class there is no break down of steps you just follow the teacher from song to song. They are mostly easy moves with some slightly more difficult ones thrown in for good measure, which you can see gives the class a great sense of achievement when mastered. In one hour we touch on soooo many dance styles, Reggaeton, Salsa, Cumbia, Hip Hop, and Merengue to name but a few and we even do a bit of Beyonce booty shaking which I thoroughly enjoy. The Zumba music is infectious too; you will be dancing to some Latin and Zumba tunes one minute and then moving to chart toppers the next.

You can easily understand why I couldn't wait to become a qualified Zumba teacher myself and I couldn't be happier I made the move.

The best way to really experience this new dance craze is to go and take a Zumba class. I found myself doing it 2 and 3 times a week as once is just not enough, trust me....its addictive. Every teacher has their own style its amazing...so each class will have its own little twist.

We had a Zumba Jam last weekend (a room full of Zumba teachers) and it was great to see how every teacher differed. It was also a great way for us teachers to take ideas away and put them into our own class.

I am very excited about 2011 and ZUMBA because I just know it's going to explode! You all need to 'Ditch the workout and join the Party' and get yourself into a Zumba class pronto......trust me you'll thank me.

We can help you choose the right Zumba class for you and look forward to doing the Mambo with you soon!

Shape Up With Zumba

Zumba is the latest fitness craze in the USA and around the world. The name "Zumba" is a Colombian word, which means, "move fast and have fun". The dance/workout is a combination of African, Caribbean and Latin dance styles, interspersed with aerobic moves. It is often called "an exercise in disguise" because it provides the absolute enjoyment of dancing with the results of a good workout.

Beginning Zumba workouts include a variety of steps from dance styles such as Hip Hop, Mambo, Soca, Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia and Reggaeton, while more advanced sessions include African dance, Samba, Tango, Flamenco, Cha Cha and belly dance moves, along with squats and lunges. It is all about dancing fun, while moving your body to the beat. The dance routines focus on abs, arms, gluts and legs, and provide an aerobic workout for heart health as well.

Zumba was created by choreographer Alberto Beto Perez in 1986. The beginning of the whole Zumba dance craze started when Beto forgot to take his aerobics dance tape to his class and used the cassettes he had in his backpack for the session. He instructed the class with improvised dance routines according to the traditional Latin, salsa and merengue music. This accident had a happy ending, as evidenced by the immense popularity of Zumba around the world.

Since it was a success in Columbia, he moved to USA in 2001 and introduced Zumba to the Americans while teaming up with Alberto Perlman and COO Alberto Aghion. Fitness Quest took the initiative to further develop the concept, also creating a direct marketing campaign and home videos as well.

This Latin-inspired dance workout has spread across the globe. It is an incredibly successful fitness program in more than 125 countries; Zumba classes are conducted in over 110,000 locations worldwide. More than 12 million people enjoy Zumba workouts in classes each week, which makes it one of the most popular dance/fitness routines ever.

Zumba is a thrilling exercise program, typically held in a party atmosphere. That helps it stand out from traditional fitness routines, which can be boring with their ho-hum music and repetitive movements. The rocking rhythms of this dance help the participants enjoy the process, keeping them energized until the end of class, where they end up sweaty and breathless (having completed a full workout while having fun!).

Zumba has become popular for a variety of reasons:

First and foremost, it's fun!
It's intense -- participants burn a lot of calories
It provides an excellent aerobic workout
It can be followed by anyone, regardless of age
The moves are so easy that even a person who cannot dance can learn them

Zumba has become one of the most popular ways of getting a great workout. The whole body is toned with the use of resistance training and intervals, providing a perfect workout physically, while relaxing the mind and soul spiritually. So, join the party and experience the difference of Zumba.
